2x Australian Gold Star Champion / 5x Supercar Champion/ 6x Bathurst 1000 winner

Mark Stephen Skaife, son of racer Russell and 50 years old in a month’s time, has been involved in motorsport for more than 30 years.

He’s won titles in touring cars and single seaters, been a team owner, circuit designer and now a television commentator.

Heavily involved with former driver and then team owner, Fred Gibson, along with Nissan and some great Australian drivers, Mark has won six times at Bathurst, twice at Sandown and been V8 Supercars champion driver five times, equal with Dick Johnson and the late Ian Geoghegan – and only bettered by Jamie Whincup.

A measure of his esteem within the motor racing milieu, he’s worked with some of our greatest drivers, such as George Fury, Jim Richards, Peter Brock, Craig Lowndes, Garth Tander and Greg Murphy among many. With 90 wins in closed cars, Skaife is third behind only Jamie Whincup and Craig Lowndes.

Doing more in single seaters than most touring car drivers, he won the Australian Drivers’ championship (the CAMS Gold Star) three times, as well as doing a Formula 3000 season in Europe. He also had a tilt at the Le Mans 24 Hour race.

In 2004 Mark Skaife was awarded the medal of the Order of Australia for his services to motor racing. And he continues, as energetically today as when he started.
