2x Australian off road Champion

David Fellows was a rookie navigator when he first tasted success in the Finke Desert Race.

It was the beginning of an imposing success story that escalated when, in 1994, he switched to the driver’s seat to fully display his off-road talents.

It took another seven years, but Fellows added victory as a driver in the car division of the classic Finke event.

It was the first of five Finke wins with the second coming in 2004 with Fellows showing his special skills in a Jimco buggy.

The Finke is regarded as the ultimate desert race on the world’s most remote course.

It is 460 kilometre blast across the sand and spinifex from Alice Springs to Finke and back, mostly following the service track of the old Ghan Railway.

Displaying his mastery of the event Fellows took his tally to five Finke wins with three consecutive King of the Desert crowns in 2008, 2009, and 2010.

But despite his fabulous Finke wins it was the first of two Australian Off-Road Championships in 2010 that Fellows regards as his most memorable achievement.

He added a second national off-road title to his impressive record in 2011 with three outright wins in championship rounds.
